On 17 May 2007, John Adams $1 Presidential dollar coins were officially released to the public; many have been found with significant mint errors that may command a numismatic premium. Please note: Normal (i.e. correct) Presidental dollar coins are gold only in appearance (that is, gold-colored); they are actually made of copper and manganese brass. Also, silver-plated, colorized or otherwise embellished (i.e., intentionally altered) Presidential dollars are not official U.S. Mint products, and though they are collectible, they should be viewed as numismatic novelties having minimal or no numismatic value.
