1st: 1794: First delivery of U.S. half-dollars.

5th: 1782: Martin Van Buren born (8th U.S. President). 1900: Treasury orders genuine bronze for mint medals.

10th: 1690: Massachusetts colony bills of credit (also see, Colonial Currency) for soldiers are first official currency in America.

13th: 1978: First Anthony dollar coins (dated 1979) struck for circulation.

15th: 1795: Elias Boudinot confirmed Mint Director #3 (1795-1805).

17th: 1923: R. J. Grant confirmed Mint Director #24 (1923-1933). 1971: President Nixon announces official U.S. gold price increase to $38 per ounce.

18th: 1889: E. O. Leech confirmed Mint Director #15 (1889-1893).

23rd: 1963: President Johnson approves Kennedy half-dollar.

24th: 1912: First coinage of nickels at the San Francisco Mint.

28th: 1856: Thomas Woodrow Wilson born (28th U.S. President).

29th: 1808: Andrew Johnson born (17th U.S. President).

30th: 1805: R. Patterson confirmed Mint Director #4 (1806-1824).

31st: 1933: End-of-term for Julian-Woodin signatures on paper money. 1970: Coinage law authorizes Eisenhower dollar coin. 1974: PL93-373 allowed gold ownership for U.S. citizens.
