| Platinum is both rare and pure. It is marked by high degree of malleability and is one of the most beautiful metals known. In 1828, the first platinum coins were issued in Russia and continued until 1845. In Spain, platinum coins date back to 1866 when they were placed for an auction. During the 1970s, the first platinum coin was issued in Israel in 1973, followed by Panama in 1976. The Soviet Union started issuing platinum coins from 1977 onwards. In recent times, the United States issued a Pied Fort Proof Crown Platinum Coin in 2004 for the first time. Similar coins were issued again in 2005 and 2006. Today, the Platinum American Eagle -- considered by many to be an excellent form of investment -- is one of the most important platinum coins of all time. |
